2 - Krishna C. - I Am From

I Am From

Krishna Clay

Will C. Wood Boys' Basketball (@WCWBasketball) / Twitter

I am From The East coast where it is colder than ever imaginable.

I am from the Air force,

 Where moving is common,

And staying put is only a dream.

I am from my home

The place i was the happiest my true home,

A small island in the pacific.

I am from the dolphins, the comets, the panthers, and the wildcats.

From the adults who have believed in me,

And my peers who never did.

I am from the person who used to worry about every little thing,

The person who would always listen to everyone,

And never hear himself.

I am from the court with the crowds roaring in the background,

All counting down waiting to see what happens next.

I am from the field under the beaming lights on a friday night,

In the crisp cool air with an entire school,

Students and teachers behind you,

 trusting you to represent them.

I am from the pressure of the time counting down knowing that you will make everyone proud.

I am from the confusing of times being homeschooled without a choice,

Forced to stay inside,

Isolated.

I am from making it through 11 years of people telling me I won't be remembered.

I am from growing through every situation,

 Never stopping,

And always adapting.

I am from the person who refuses to change himself.

I am a person who will always persevere.

I am a person who will always choose peace.

I am from myself..

  1. This poem is truly inspiring. The imagery used when describing all the perseverance you had to go through when growing up with all those obstacles in your way makes me understand more about your background and more about yourself. The connection between the things you had to go through and your mindset to everything is so great as it connects the whole poem together. And I also like your basketball and football references when mentioning the crowds in the basketball games and the beaming lights in the football games.

  2. This poem gives such an insight into the feeling of being a player for me, as somebody who has no idea of such a setting. Even though it helps, I can't imagine how that feels to have so much attention on you. Then the part at the end is such a powerful message, one of persevering and what's more growing despite feeling like the world is against you.

  3. This poem almost feels like the telling of a story, a story of defying odds and overcoming doubt. Proving to all that you are more than they said you were, a big “screw you” to all the people you said you wouldn’t make it. This poem is great and has such a powerful feel behind it.
