I am From, two different worlds
From poverty and family to opportunity and isolation.
I am From a land from which I was birthed and a land which I was raised,
Identities clash, and origin clouded.
Family held me together
Family seldom together
I am From a land divided,
A land reformed but damaged.
From tropical salty air,
From dense jungles and dirty cities,
A land doused in napalm
A land which now grows
I am From a place I long to know
A place which I might not get to know
I am From, a golden state,
One of intense heat,
One which comprises of all I know,
But not all that I desire.
A land of opportunity in which my parents sought,
Sacrifice to live up to and hope it wasn’t for naught.
A house and home repeatedly changed,
A house and home finally settled.
I am From, somewhere
Memories slip, memories fade.
Fear the creeping feeling,
Know the dread all too well.
An old man sits in a wheelchair,
Memories took and his brain deteriorated.
Forgot his children and even his wife,
Only remembered me.
A lingering fear for the whole family.
I am From, uncertainty
A future undefined as it should be,
One that will not define me.
Time spent worrying is time wasted,
Live how I wish to live.
A life where I must grasp my future within my hands,
A life where one event can take it from me.
With knowledge in hand I will tread,
To a brighter tomorrow free from dread.
I liked the use of repetition and also the use of descriptive language. Some of the examples used to describe where you came from made me feel somewhat the same of what you went through.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very descriptive poem that is filled with imagery. I can truly imagine everything going on in the first half of the poem. The final stance of the poem can really connect to most people out there, from the uncertainty to hoping for a brighter future ahead. That has to be my favorite part of this poem. It really makes me think about how one event can shift somebody's life forever. A very well written poem that I enjoyed reading.
